Data export and memo field requests

It is not that long ago since I bit the bullet and started to use EID, and since EID does not enable you to store all sheep records required by SEERAD, I would like the option to download all records on EID relevant to our holding, instead of painstakingly going through each individual entry.

On the subject of downloading, I have to say I am rather disappointed on the information downloaded to excel, ie, just the information from the tag reader. I would like all the fields and more shown on the screen; ie, Sheep, Reads, %, move, lot date, lot, Departure CPH, Read location, Destination CPH. In addition to these, I would also like the name of the CPH code, ie, Aberdeen Northern Marts, etc. It would be fair to say I have somewhat more experience with databases than your average person with working in IT support in the past. I just feel it is better to be able to download too much data than not enough, then we users can personally choose which fields we wish to import into our own records, whether it be database or spreadsheet.

Finally, my last request; I would like a memo fields available at all times, for example recording deaths, tagging, etc.

The other thing I have noticed is that the icons to search, print, etc, are rather small; can go unnoticed by those with good eye sight, never mind those visually impaired.

You do not need to download

You do not need to download the individual reads to comply with the legislation. Scottish Government are happy that the ScotEID system constitutes part of your holding register if you wish.

What you are trying to do sounds very specific, our aim is to make the basic system as simple as possible for the average user whilst providing the necessary software interfaces for those who want to do something more complex with the data. It is not our intention to replace the more complex functionality provided by specialised farm management software. The need for individual animal reconciliation is something we are not intending to promote.
If you are planning on programming an interface to the ScotEID system please see the documentation below.

The memo/comments box is a good idea and is something we have considered in the past and will look to add in the future.

I agree that the icons are too small for some users especially when using very high resolution monitors. These were the largest set of icons available for our chosen tool-kit when we were developing the system and developing a new set of icons wasn't a practical option. The next release of this tool-kit will include larger icons so we will hopefully be able to improve this shortly.

Thanks for the helpful input.
