How is it all going? Is anyone else feeling a little bit sorry that the blue eid tags which were for the trial (we had blue in the wethers) are not compatible with this years regulations.... yellow for eid, black tag for sheep with a bolus.
They do not read with the same number inside as outside.... so next years gimmers will not really be compatible either.... or won't be when all sheep have to be eid'd by 2011
Please could anyone let me know if we will be allowed to replace them FOC???
Out of about 350 lambs tagged we only lost one tag and had 2 (I think) where the chip stopped reading. Pretty good going and yes, Hamish, I do think the technology is great.... just waiting to see how I can get £'s towards a reader and management software so we can use it all. LMO's? Anyone heard anything definite yet?
Is there going to be any continuation of a trial? the texels lamb in about 3 1/2 weeks so need to buy tags soon!!
Also, if we didn't get software, is this lovely website going to be available for me to upload data and then find out who moved where???
So many questions!!!

Firstly Happy New Year
Just take care that you don't read DEFRA regulations and presume that the Scottish ones are going to be the same!
Ammended by Administrator in the light of events!
The Scoteid team's summary of the New Scottish Guidelines is here
Pleased to see that the tags stayed in well. However if you do get tags you are pretty certain are no longer functioning it would be handy if you cut them out and set them to us.
Actual "duds" seem pretty rare and they do seem to be fairly resilient.
The pilot will continue through 2010, but the exact form and emphasis will very much depend on what the Minister decides to do, and where we think ( or know) we are having problems.
I am going to leave it to Jon to answer the last question, and he will point you in the right direction.... "seek and ye shall find".
Thawing a wee bit down here today (12th Jan).
All the best
