Markets and EID

Just a few points to note about selling lambs at United auctions stirling . Mainly that while they have read the tags of every prime lamb i've sold, not one of the three lots have been uploaded to the website despite repeated requests from us to do so. Is this a problem ? I think so. They say they have had problems too ? Can you offer training of staff or is it as I suspect a lack of time and effort being put in at their end . This means my eid flock register is incomplete and because none of the UA lambs were read on farm my records cannot be updated. What can I do ? I want to sell at UA and I dont think I should have to read every lot of fat lams on farm as well although then I know it would be done. Can you offer some advice. Just to say we had no problem at CD mart. on a big ewe lamb day all info uploaded but Lanark cannot even read the tags.
The markets are the linch pin of the new system looking forward and its time they started putting resources in place to make the launch possible. It is in their own interest to know it can work on sale day and what better way than to use the current pilot members sheep. I do concede that the numbers handled in the future cannot be done by handheld equipment and this is where technology should kick in and remove the burden with automated reading and recording and simple uploading. I'd also like to add that a fully functioning national data base is a must so that farmers can use the eid fock register for their own records again based on the critical control points taking the strain of info gathering and data processing

Completing EID lots

Can you please advise why the format has been changed, to no longer give the CPH as identification In many cases, as now the only identification for vendor is the Flock ref. We find it very time consuming jogging back & forward through our market system for customers information, where as before when hovering over CPH customers info was immediately given.

Previously the data uploaded

Previously the data uploaded by the manufacturers included the CPH the tags were issued too. Unfortunately, we are no longer getting these uploads from the manufacturers.
We are actively investigating other means of getting this data such as through the tag issuing authority. Hopefully we will have a solution sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the input

We have contacted the Market about these issues and will update this reply once we have more information.

The fixed reader at Stirling doesn't seem to have been working for some time. However, it is possible that they may have read your sheep with sticks but have not yet uploaded the data.
We would be happy to provide technical support to any of the critical control points in any way we can. However, the first point of contact for support/training should ideally be the suppliers of the equipment.

If you are tagging shortly before putting the sheep to market it is possible to manually record a run of tags on the website without having to read each sheep individually. Contact support@scoteid.com if you are needing help with this.

On a more positive note Castle Douglas have recently installed a new reader which should be operating next time you sell there.
